i would probably think:

that isn't a wise investment of my tithe money.

have fun with your team on your own time. for example the fish book doesn't tell you to have fun throwing a frisbee, it says find a way to make fun what you do.

if somebody is investing 2.6% of their income in their future .... they are doing better than average: the average saving rate was below zero in the not to distant past, though now it is hovering around 4 to 6%. and if they invest in the right things they are doing way better than average.

Points being made:
-some people like being average or just above; besides if everyone was above average the average would be higher ;-).
other point
-it matters too, what you do with the time. i could put my money in a can under the mattress or in a stocks and funds, where if you are smart you will earn a return.
Point being (the long way around); if you spend time with your son or daughter and just watch tv ... in most cases, not a good investment whether it is 15 mins or 2 hours

Jeremy,
good points. i believe 4032 is the estimated "free time" we have after working and sleeping, and i believe it is a conservative number allowing for about 8 hours of work 7 days a week. If you look at the overall number as you stated, the picture is much worse, maybe so much so that people cant even grasp the reality of it.

A beautiful investment of time... make a deposit of time as often as possible...

Here's a beautiful video I found at Ann Voskamp's Holy Experience ...
It's worth watching with alone, with your family, or as a community
...gather everyone around :o)
It's about worshiping the Creator of all that is.

Great point, Frank. I don't know where you get the 4,032 number from though. There are actually 10,080 minutes in a week--meaning that if a Dad only spends 15 minutes a day with his kids, he's only investing 1.04 percent of his time into them relationally! I figured there might have been a formula to come up with your number though, like subtracting sleeping hours, or work hours (which I guess you could argue that when it's within reason is an investment in your kids and family). In any case, the relational investment is the most important piece, and no matter which number you use the situation ain't lookin' good!
