Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist (n.) – A German term meaning “spirit of the time.” It refers to the moral and intellectual trends of a given era.
Before today, I had never even heard this word. Then, out of the blue, twice in one day!
The first incident was disturbing. A friend sent me on a Google video hunt which turned up a two hour video that will disturb me for some time. Not only because the content was belligerent, but because I am concerned that some will take the video as fact without any research to prove its claims. For this reason, I am not going to post the link to that video here. The video basically attacks established religion (particularly Christianity) and the U.S. government, claiming both are a conspiracy to take away our rights until we become slaves to the World Bank and One World government. My thought after watching the video was “what an intelligent terrorist campaign”. Kinda reverse psychology, since the videos claims that we will believe anything we see or hear.
And then, just as the tension was subsiding, I see it again! This time it was on the “Church Marketing Sucks” blog. This post was harmless, but it stirred up the discontent from the video anew. (I hope my post doesn’t produce the same visceral response for anyone!)
If by some chance, you have happened across this video, don’t take its claims as true without researching the facts. Though they use some historical facts, the presentation of these facts is communicated with an extreme bias towards the author’s personal atheistic and pessimistic world view.
